10th Constitutional Convention - November 6th and 7th
A constitutional convention, a proposed new state, and an opportunity for Illinois residents to learn more.
Have you ever wondered whether the people of Illinois could pursue a different future by creating a new state?
The New Illinois movement is continuing its efforts to explore that possibility, and residents will have an opportunity to learn more at the 10th Constitutional Convention, scheduled for November 6–7, 2026, in Bloomington, Illinois.
The event will feature Ted Dabrowski, author and financial expert, and Illinois State Senator Chris Balkema. Saturday’s program will also include an information session led by New Illinois Vice Chairman and Hancock County Chairman Larry Mulch, with time for questions and answers.
Why New Illinois?
For many downstate and rural Illinois residents, questions about representation, state government priorities, taxation, and the growing differences between the Chicago metropolitan area and the rest of the state have become increasingly important.
The New Illinois movement advocates creating a separate state for communities that believe their interests and values are not adequately represented under the current state government. Supporters see the proposal as an opportunity to examine a different future for their communities.
Of course, creating a new state would be a significant undertaking, involving constitutional requirements, negotiations, and approval at the state and federal levels. The convention offers an opportunity to better understand the movement’s goals, its progress, and the legal and practical challenges ahead.
Whatever your position on the proposal, understanding the discussion is an important first step.
